Starkloff Pool Cabana
- Austin, Texas
This reimagined space replaces a small efficiency apartment in an existing accessory unit built in the early 1990’s. The redesign of the space as a pool cabana takes cues from the existing buildings on the site, including the original main house that was designed by a UT architecture professor in the 1920s.
The entrance, which was previously on the north side of the building by the garage doors, was repositioned to open up onto an existing backyard pool. Steel accordion doors allow seamless transition to the natural surroundings, and a laminated wood assembly forms the floor of a sleeping loft for overnight guests. The main room of the building is an entertaining area with modern touches that balance well with the historic architecture on the property.
