Through all of the rain in Central Texas, two of our favorite residential projects are moving steadily through construction. Luckily both had roofs above them before the rain started in earnest. We expect much progress on these projects this fall. #residentialarchitecture #austinarchitecture #architecture #construction

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Featured Fort Friday! The congregation of colorful cages of In Bloom takes inspiration from the live oak motts of Central Texas. Many of the mesh cylinders of varying scale and hue can be entered, allowing guests to enjoy a secure personal space while seeing and hearing one another through layers of transparent color. The primary material, which is commonly used to protect saplings from local fauna, is enlivened by colors reminiscent of spring wildflowers. In Bloom is based on the notion that, “through a child’s eyes, a common object has the potential to transform into something magical.” Designed by Sanders Architecture with Boomtown Design. This fort is sponsored by T.L. Carter Family.

Construction update on a hot July afternoon: This gem of a project is the conversion of an existing accessory dwelling into a pool cabana that opens onto a back yard oasis in central Austin, Texas. The design respects the historic home and creates a calm, modern space that completes the beautiful outdoor pool courtyard. More photos to come as this one progresses. David Wilkes Builders
