Leland Ulmer

Senior Designer

“A lasting architecture is one that, in the performance of its job, makes people feel that their shelter is more rejuvenating, their work is easier, the colors of their paintings are brighter, and their music more enjoyable.” — Leland Ulmer

In 2012, Leland joined Sanders Architecture as a senior designer. His previous professional experience includes design and project management roles at Andersson Wise Architects, Miró Rivera Architects and Webber + Studio Architects.

Leland has contributed to several notable works in Austin, including the TRACE Restaurant in the W Hotel, the Texas Exes Etter-Harbin Alumni Center and ZACH Theater. In 2010, his work on the Abell family residence in Austin was honored with a Silver Award by the esteemed American Society of Interior Designers. He has also been certified as a LEED Green Associate by the U. S. Green Building Council.

Leland earned a bachelor’s degree in design from the University of Florida in 2005 and completed his graduate studies in architecture at the University of Texas at Austin in 2008.

He is a recipient of the Mike and Maxine K. Mebane Endowed Traveling Scholarship in Architecture and the Daniel Bredahl Memorial Scholarship, which sent him to Castiglion Fiorentino and Florence, Italy. He has also studied architecture in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Guadalajara, Mexico.

Leland’s community service includes sharing his time and talent with architecture students at the University of Texas, where he was a design assistant for an intermediate-level studio class addressing the real-world transformation of Austin’s Airport Boulevard.

Leland regards his hometown Gainesville, Florida as as “the only place I might rather be than Austin, Texas.”
